Keeping your Cup Full

“You cannot pour from an empty cup” is such a cliché at this point because we all know this by now. Although a cliché, it’s so true and will continue to be a popular saying because we forget to fill our cup too easily! In today’s society, everything feels like a priority so we try to fit everything into our already busy lives. We get exhausted and burnout, our cups go from full to empty before we know it. Even with an empty cup we try to squeeze more things into our schedules, leading to us pouring from empty cups. We do this because pouring into other things makes us feel good about ourselves and is partially necessary for survival. We pour into work to earn a living and to support our families. We pour into our loved ones to create fulfilling and satisfying relationships. But while we are doing these things, we forget to pour into ourselves. With an empty cup that stays empty for long, we become less productive and less effective at fulfilling our roles and obligations. Work becomes draining and relationships become overwhelming. Sometimes we want others to pour into our cup instead of refilling it on our own. We must make it a priority to keep our cups full by pouring into ourselves like we pour into everything else!

Refill your cup by:

  • Leave work at work. Once you get home, do something that relaxes you
  • Make time to revisit an old hobby or try out a new one
  • Set boundaries. Know when to say no!
  • Create a constructive mindset by writing/practicing gratitude, positive thoughts, and manifestations
  • Do something that is fun to you
  • Sleep in, take naps
  • Exercise
